We are 3/4 of the way through our interview season seeking to match two new interns for the 2008-2009 academic year. So far, we have been blessed with outstanding applicants committed to pursuing combined training.

In other news, Drs. Glen Pearlstein and Drs. Robert Dasher gave a talk last week entitled “The Impaired Physician” for the Winter 2008 UCLA-Olive View Combined Internal Medicine-Emergency Medicine Grand Rounds. The conference was well attended by faculty and residents in both the internal and emergency medicine programs.

Jeremy Swartzberg, MD R-3 presented original research on hyperkalemia and insulin use in DKA at the ACEP research forum. His research was also mentioned on EM-RAP(Emergency Medicine Research and Perspective). Way to go Jeremy!

Our interview season for the 2008 residency Match is finally over and we were overwhelmed by the interest in our combined residency. It seems that there is a nationwide interest among top U.S. senior medical students in pursuing combined internal medicine/emergency medicine training.

Raul hails from the University of Iowa School of Medicine and worked closely with UCLA combined program alum Hans House, MD who is now the EM Program Director there.
